Care Guide

Every Playback piece is one of one, treat it right and it'll outlive the trend cycle.

Before you wear it

We disinfect, clean, and quality-check every item before it enters the archive. When it arrives at your door it's ready to wear as-is, no need to wash it before first use unless you want to.

Washing

  • Denim & workwear, wash cold, inside out, on a gentle cycle. Skip the dryer; hang dry to preserve the wash and fit.
  • Cotton shirts & tees, cold wash, gentle spin, hang or tumble low. Iron on medium if needed.
  • Knitwear (sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies), hand-wash or use the delicates cycle in cold water. Reshape flat and dry on a towel, never hang wet knits or they'll stretch out.
  • Polos & piqué, cold wash, gentle cycle, hang dry. Ironing collar and placket keeps them looking crisp.

Drying

Hang or lay flat wherever possible. Tumble drying shortens the life of vintage fibres, tightens knits, and can crack old prints or embroidery.

Storage

  • Fold heavy items (knits, sweatshirts, denim) rather than hanging, hangers stretch shoulders over time.
  • Hang lighter items (button-downs, polos, jackets) on wooden or padded hangers.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
  • Cedar blocks or lavender sachets in the wardrobe keep moths off natural fibres.

Ironing & steaming

A handheld steamer is your best friend for vintage, no direct heat, no scorched prints. If you must iron, always use a pressing cloth over embroidered or printed graphics.

Stains

Treat spills immediately with cold water and a mild soap. Avoid bleach on any coloured or vintage piece. For stubborn stains, take it to a dry cleaner and mention the piece is vintage so they treat it gently.

Caps & accessories

  • Structured caps, spot-clean only. Never machine-wash, it wrecks the brim.
  • Belts & leather, wipe with a damp cloth; condition leather twice a year with a proper leather balm.
  • Scarves, hand-wash or dry-clean depending on the fabric.

Repairs

Small tears, loose threads, or a missing button aren't the end, a good tailor will fix it in minutes. Vintage is meant to be worn and lived in.
