Grading Guide
Every piece in the Playback archive is graded before it goes live. The grade tells you exactly what to expect, so there are no surprises when the box arrives. This is what each grade means.
Top-notch condition
The best of what we source. Looks and feels near-new. No visible fading, no stains, no repairs.
- No fading on colors or prints
- No stains, marks, or discoloration
- Original hand feel intact (crisp cotton, structured denim, no softening beyond what's expected)
- All tags, buttons, and hardware present and in working order
- May show extremely light signs of use only under close inspection
Slight fading, washed but well-loved
Pieces that have been worn and washed a handful of times. Softer than Excellent-grade, with light fading that's typical of the era. Zero stains or damage.
- Light, even fading on colors (the good kind that gives vintage its character)
- Slightly softer hand feel from washing
- No stains, no damage, no repairs
- All tags and hardware intact
- Perfect for anyone who prefers a broken-in look
Wearable, may need a rigorous wash
Fully wearable pieces that show real vintage character. May have light stains that come out with a proper wash, or minor imperfections that don't affect wearability. Priced accordingly.
- May have light stains that respond to a rigorous wash cycle
- Noticeable fading or softening from years of wear
- Minor imperfections may be present (small marks, light discoloration, a touch of pilling)
- Structural integrity is intact (no holes, no tears, no missing buttons)
- Best for wearers who appreciate authentic vintage patina and don't mind a wash before first wear
